Hi, my name is Candice Williams. I used to weigh 460lbs.
Over the past 4 years, with healthy eating and fitness, I have lost over 260lbs all natural.
I was raised by one of the strongest women I know. My mother, who is chronically disabled, and suffering from several conditions such as narcolepsy, degenerative back disease, diabetes and neuropathy, has such fight I can only believe that I inherited some of that same fight from her.
She raised me and my sister by herself. We didn't have much money, but we never went hungry. She did the best she could with what she had. I often kept to myself and would keep everything in. I was never a lazy child as I excelled in academics, extra-curricular activities, and church voluntary events. I love to make others happy but even though I smiled on the outside, on the inside I was slowly fading. I used food and cutting as my source of comfort in a world where I had no friends and no at a time when I felt there was no way out. I am proud to say that I have not cut in over 2 years and that is all because of fitness.
In the 5th grade I was already wearing a size 3X and by high school I couldn't find a dress for prom and had to make one. I was never asked on a date or asked to dance. I couldn’t fit in most bath tubs and couldn’t fit in the desks at school. There was no need to go to the amusement parks, or fairs because I couldn’t ride the rides due to the weight restrictions. That’s all I seemed to have, was limitations and restrictions.
I joined Weight Watchers and started introducing fitness into my life and 4 years later I have lost 280lbs (gaining some back due to muscle). Fitness changed my life and when I wake up in the morning I don’t think of cutting or even eating. I think about how I am going to push myself today? How am I going to train my body even more to become healthier and happier? How can I make someone else smile? Not because I have to but because I want to!
Being almost 500lbs, I was miserable. The teasing and torment I experienced growing up, still haunts me today but day by day I am learning to love me…ALL of me. But sadly with that comes the constant reminder that I am still faced with limitations, mainly because of the excess skin. I love to hike and run and do all the things that I couldn’t do at 460lbs, but with the skin it makes many things that seem so simple and free, become so constricting and embarrassing. You can hear the skin if I jump or run and do not have on “gym” or tighter fitting clothing. After losing almost 300lbs sadly no matter hour many years, and hours and gallons of sweat that I put into it, there is only so much fitness and dieting can do.
For those that have followed my journey, I have had one of three excess skin surgeries. I did a fundraiser in the past and thanks to all of you and the grace of GOD, and a $9,000 loan I was able to get my first. That was my arms and my lower stomach (total was almost $11,000). I still have my thighs to do and my sides/upper stomach. This surgery is for my thighs and that will cost about $6,500. The skin they removed off of my first surgery was almost 10lbs. They estimate about 5-7 just from my thighs!
I want to make it very clear that I in no way “expect” or want things handed to me. I work full-time, but I also go to school and help take care of my family. I have no other family but my mother and sister who are both disabled, and my beautiful nephew who is about 1 and half years old. I am beyond blessed and thankful of any donation or support even if it is just a kind message or post! I will never give up on myself or my dreams and one day hope to be able to see the muscle that I know is there.
I hope that my story can show you that anyone can lose weight if they put their mind to it. Is it hard? Yes! But it is also worth it. Never give up!
